GLENN Turner is now only five days away from bringing a new Guinness World Record to Britain.

47-year-old professional golfer Glenn, from Lancashire, began the record breaking marathon on April 1 2006 in Cardross, Scotland and has played at courses across England, Wales, Ireland and Mallorca in the past 12 months.

He has walked the equivalent of 103 marathons on the greens in that time, lost two and a half stone and driven almost 19,000 miles in his customised motorhome which has been his home for the 12 months.

Glenn, who today played his 377th course in 360 days, said: “The tour has been incredibly tiring and I am glad the finish line is now in sight, but I have had some fantastic experiences in the past 12 months and am really excited about setting the new world record.

“I am also really pleased with all the money I have raised for the 43 hospices which make up the Association of Children’s Hospices and the Rhys Daniels Trust. I would like to thank everyone who has supported my progress and the charities.”

Glenn’s tour comes to an end on Saturday (March 31) at Nigel Mansell’s Woodbury Park Golf Club in Devon. The final day will be a celebration of Glenn’s achievements, with 80 places available at £500 per pair to play on the same course as Glenn as he sets the record.

Prizes including a £20,000 car for anyone getting a hole in one, a week’s golf in Mallorca including flights, accommodation, car hire and five rounds of golf and a weekend at the Belfry are available for golfers taking part on the final day. He said:

“The £500 per pair entry charge for this day also includes a gala dinner the night before, a prize giving ceremony and accommodation as well as the chance of being there when the world record is set.

“I also want as many families as possible to come along on Saturday to cheer me on as I set the record and join in the celebrations with my girlfriend Rachel and her daughter Sophie who will be there to cheer me on as I set the record.”
